MAY FISHING EXPLAINED
The month of May represents the peak of the spring fishing season in Southwest Florida. With water temperatures firmly established in the high 70s and low 80s, the “Big Three” are in high gear. Baitfish, primarily scaled sardines (whitebait) and threadfin herring, are thick across the flats and near the passes, fueling an aggressive bite.
Snook have completed their move to the outside points and are stacked in the passes for their upcoming spawn. Redfish are roaming the shorelines in larger schools, taking advantage of the higher daytime tides. Spotted Seatrout are abundant on the deeper grass flats, providing consistent action for all skill levels.
