Planning your Thanksgiving holiday at Port Sanibel Marina can blend family time with a little fun added in. Many families designate the holiday season as vacation time, focused on spending time together relaxing and reconnecting with each other. Those looking for a little adventure may opt for active spots like Southwest Florida where boating, fishing and other fun water activities are the norm.

Planning Ahead

Imagine taking a boat out early Thanksgiving morning so the early risers can enjoy a peaceful time with family and friends. Let our staff know if you want to schedule a cruise so your boat is taken out of storage and prepared for your departure. If planning to arrive by boat to spend the holiday in the area be sure to let us know when to expect you. Then if you need to charter a boat; be sure to call ahead for availability, especially during the holiday period.

Fishing for Snook is popular in Southwest Florida. The season runs through Dec. 1.

Dinner Plans

Just because you’re out on the boat is no reason to forego your Thanksgiving feast. In addition to turkey and all the trimmings, some will also enjoy a sample of the day’s catch fresh from the gulf. There’s no rule for Thanksgiving menus so go ahead and serve fish too! The area is best known for Snook and Grouper.

Or if you want to leave the cooking to someone else, make reservations at the Lighthouse Waterfront Restaurant here at Port Sanibel Marina. Just as the name suggests, guests can enjoy waterfront dining either indoor or outdoor.

Plan to share time bonding with family on Thanksgiving Day with a boat ride.

Plan for Holiday Fun

Once dinner is over, there are a number of ways to get out and explore the area and walk off some of those dinner pounds. Try out the Port Sanibel Nature Boardwalk. It’s a good 30 minute to 45 minute walk showcasing educational displays of the region’s habitat and wildlife.

The family may want another boat ride to end the day, having fun to conclude the day with special memories out on the water. This may be a good time to get a few special photos of the group to mark the day and get a head start on sending out the annual family holiday greetings.
