With the new year, Port Sanibel Marina is excited to welcome a new addition — a new captain! Southwest Florida native and 4th Generation Angler Capt. Matt Johnson has joined Capt. Bill Hammond, owner of Endless Summer Charters.
According to the Endless Summer Charters website, Matt comes from a long line of talented fishermen. His great grandfather even had the Col. Frank B. Johnson Fishing Pier in Honeymoon, Fla. named after him. Born and raised in the Sanibel Island area, Matt spent his summers at his grandfather’s home on the small and remote Pine Island, fishing the sound and exploring the waterways via canoe and kayak from the ripe age of four.
As his passion for the island waters flourished, he began eagerly pursuing a professional career on the water. He started by working for a local family business, leading fishing charters and ecological tours for nearly 10 years. That lead to an opportunity to obtain his USCG Masters Captain License. Beyond fishing, Matt enjoys photography, especially on the water.
Capt. Matt will now be leading the Endless Summer Charters weekend fleets, and according to the website, Capt. Bill is confident you’ll be “pleased” with Matt’s “experience, service and attention to detail as your captain!”
